Hexthorpe sits just to the west of Doncaster’s city centre, tucked into a bend of the River Don. It is a long-established community that grew significantly during the railway boom, evidenced by the rows of traditional brick terraced housing that once served the workers of the nearby 'Plant' works. Today, the area is defined geographically by the expanse of Hexthorpe Park, which remains one of the town’s most significant green spaces; it contains the Dell (a former quarry turned into a sensory garden) and hosts one of the few remaining flat-green bowling clubs in the district. The locality is exceptionally well-placed for those needing access to the railway station, which is within walking distance, and the high street of the village itself provides the essentials, from local grocers to small independent shops. While it feels like a distinct suburb, the proximity to the North Bridge and the town's ring road makes it a practical base for getting across South Yorkshire without being right in the middle of the urban transition.
