Repton sits on the edge of the Trent Valley, about eight miles south of Derby and close to the border with Staffordshire. It is a village defined by its deep historical roots; it was once the capital of the ancient kingdom of Mercia, and the 8th-century Anglo-Saxon crypt beneath St Wystan’s Church remains one of the most significant pieces of early architecture in the country. This history blends into the modern character of the village, which is largely shaped by the presence of Repton School, whose historic buildings are integrated into the main streets. For day-to-day life, the village has a small collection of essential shops and several well-regarded pubs, while the nearby A38 and A50 provide straightforward road links to larger hubs like Burton upon Trent, Derby, and East Midlands Airport. The surrounding landscape is largely agricultural, offering a network of footpaths that follow the river and climb towards the higher ground of south Derbyshire.
