Findern sits about five miles southwest of Derby, positioned between the Trent and Mersey Canal to the south and the dualled A50 to the north. It manages to feel self-contained, centred around a traditional village green that still serves as a focal point for the primary school and the parish church of All Saints. Historically, it was recorded in the Domesday Book and later became known for the "Findern Flower," a rare species of poet’s narcissus said to have been brought back from the Crusades by local landowners. Today, the village is practical for those working in the city or at the nearby Toyota plant, yet it retains a distinct rural edge with footpaths leading out toward the canal towpaths at Stenson and Willington. While it has seen modern housing development over the decades, the core of the village remains defined by its older brick cottages and the quiet, steady pace of a community that has existed for centuries.
