Bow sits roughly halfway between Okehampton and Crediton, following the line of the A3072 as it cuts through the rolling landscape of Mid Devon. It is a long, linear village that originally grew as a planned settlement in the 12th century, designed to take advantage of the trade route passing through. The high street is characterised by its distinctive raised pavements and a mix of traditional cob and thatch cottages that hint at its medieval origins. For day-to-day practicalities, the village maintains a surprisingly strong infrastructure for its size, including a medical centre, a primary school, and a local pub, alongside a well-regarded garden centre and aquatic shop on the outskirts. Geographically, it occupies a prime spot for those who value the outdoors; it feels deeply rural, surrounded by farmland and quiet lanes, yet it remains within commuting distance of Exeter. To the south, the northern heights of Dartmoor are clearly visible on the horizon, providing a constant sense of connection to the wider Devon moorlands.
