Old Colwyn sits just to the east of its larger neighbour, Colwyn Bay, separated by the sweep of Eirias Park. It feels more like a distinct village than a suburb, centered around the local shops on Abergele Road and the limestone cliffs of Raynes Quarry that mark its eastern boundary. Historically, this was the original settlement - long before the Victorian expansion created the modern 'Bay' - and you can still see that older character in the layout of the streets rising steeply away from the coast. Geographically, it’s defined by its proximity to the promenade; a walk down through the dingle leads directly to the waterfront, which is now well-connected by the coastal path and cycle route. While it shares the same long stretch of sandy beach as its neighbour, the atmosphere here is generally quieter, tucked away from the main town centre but with its own direct access to the A55, making it a practical base for getting across the North Wales coast.
