Mochdre sits in a practical spot, tucked away just inland from Colwyn Bay and protected by the rise of Bryn Euryn. It’s a village defined by its convenience and its long industrial history; originally a focal point for the Welsh slate trade due to its position on the railway, it has evolved into a key hub for local trade and services. The layout is straightforward, centered around the main corridor of Conway Road, which provides a direct link to the A55 and the neighboring towns of Llandudno and Conwy. While much of the village is occupied by established residential streets and the sprawling business park, there is an immediate connection to the outdoors. A short walk uphill leads to the limestone grasslands of Bryn Euryn Nature Reserve, where you can see the remains of Llys Euryn, a 15th-century manor house, and look out over the Irish Sea. It’s an unpretentious place that functions as the engine room of the local area, offering a sense of community that feels distinct from the more seasonal, tourist-heavy coastal strips nearby.
