Buttermere is a picturesque village located in the northwest of England, near the town of Cockermouth. The village is situated within the Lake District National Park, and it's encircled by some of the UK's most beautiful scenery, including high fells, lush forests and crystal-clear lakes. Its name comes from the small lake nearby that shares its name, which is framed by steep hillsides that feature ancient woodland and low-level walks. The village itself has a small population and few amenities except for a couple of traditional pubs, a tearoom, and a few holiday cottages. Despite this lack of conveniences, Buttermere is a haven for those seeking solitude among natural landscapes, and an excellent place to base oneself when exploring the Lake District. Residents of Buttermere benefit from access to some glorious hiking trails, including those around Buttermere and Crummock Water- two sister lakes in the vicinity- along with several historic landmarks such as Murthwaite Green farmhouse which dates back to 1688.
