Lying just south of Chorley, Heath Charnock is a place defined by its interface between industrial heritage and open countryside. It doesn't have a single defined village centre, but instead functions as a semi-rural parish where the landscape is shaped by the presence of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the Upper Rivington Reservoir. Historically, the area was part of the ancient hundred of Leyland, and while the pits and quarries that once drove the local economy have long since closed, their footprint remains in the local topography. Today, the area is practical for those needing quick access to the M61, yet it retains a quiet, windswept character, particularly as the land rises toward the West Pennine Moors. It is a location of footpaths and bridges rather than high streets, where the local identity is tied closely to the neighbouring settlements of Adlington and Rivington.
