Staveley sits roughly five miles northeast of Chesterfield, positioned along the banks of the River Rother and the route of the Chesterfield Canal. The town’s landscape is a direct reflection of its heavy industrial heritage, once defined by the collieries and the massive Staveley Ironworks that dominated local life for generations. Today, much of that industrial footprint has been repurposed into green spaces; the nearby Poolsbrook Country Park, created on the site of a former colliery, offers substantial trails and lakes that connect into the wider Trans Pennine Trail. The town centre remains functional, centered around its traditional market square and the healthy independent trade along the high street, while the restored Staveley Basin has become a focal point for narrowboats and walkers. Geographically, it's a practical spot, offering straightforward access to the M1 motorway and easy commutes into Sheffield or Mansfield, yet it retains the distinct, unpretentious character of a North Derbyshire terminal town.
