Perched on the lower slopes of Hope Mountain, Penymynydd is a quiet, well-placed village just across the Welsh border from Chester. It effectively forms a single community with its immediate neighbour, Penyffordd, and the two share many of the day-to-day essentials, including the railway station which links directly to Wrexham and the Wirral. It is a geographically practical spot; from the higher ground around the village, you get clear views over the Cheshire Plain, yet you’re only a few miles from the A55, making it a straightforward base for those working in the nearby cities or the Deeside industrial hubs. While much of the village has grown through modern housing, its roots are tied to the local agriculture and the historic estates of Flintshire, and there is still a firm sense of being surrounded by open countryside. It’s the kind of place where things are understated - reliable local schools, a handful of decent pubs nearby, and plenty of lanes and footpaths that lead straight out into the hills.
