Straddling the banks of the River Dee, Farndon is a village defined largely by its relationship with the water and its sandstone neighbour, Holt. The two are famously linked by a Grade I listed mediaeval bridge, which serves as a narrow gateway between England and Wales and historically stood as a vital defensive point during the Civil War. Life here tends to centre around the high street, which offers an essential mix of a local butcher, an independent pharmacy, and a couple of well-regarded pubs, meaning you don’t always have to rely on a car for daily needs. Geographically, it’s a practical spot for those working in the city; Chester is only about eight miles to the north, while the Wrexham Industrial Estate is just across the border. While the village has grown over the years with some newer developments, it retains a compact, community feel, bordered by the riverside meadows and working farmland that stretch out across the Cheshire Plain.
