Camberley sits in a practical corner of the Surrey Heath, right where the borders of Hampshire and Berkshire meet. The town as we know it today grew around the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the 19th century, having originally been founded by a community of tradesmen and staff serving the college. Its layout is dominated by the long stretch of the A30, which still follows the route of the old coach road to the West Country, and the town center is built on a manageable, compact scale with a mix of Victorian brickwork and modern redevelopments. Geographically, it’s framed by the Bagshot Sands, meaning the surrounding landscape is characterized by dense heathland and pine forests rather than rolling hills. For getting around, the M3 is right on the doorstep, offering a direct link into London or down to the coast, and while the local train station is on a branch line, it provides a functional connection to the wider rail network at Ascot and Woking. It’s a place that feels settled and functional, deeply tied to its military history but very much focused on its role as a busy, well-connected regional hub.
