Kenfig Hill is a sizable village in the Bridgend County Borough, situated on a ridge that offers clear views across the Bristol Channel toward the Somerset coast. It sits just north of the M4, positioned roughly halfway between the larger towns of Port Talbot and Bridgend, making it a practical base for anyone commuting across South Wales. The village grew significantly during the industrial boom of the 19th and 20th centuries, largely to house workers for the nearby ironworks and collieries, and that sense of a close-knit, self-contained community remains today. Most daily needs are met on Commercial Street, which hosts a variety of independent shops, pharmacies, and pubs. While it feels modern and functional, the village is connected to deep history; it lies just inland from the celebrated Kenfig National Nature Reserve, the site of a medieval town famously buried by shifting sand dunes centuries ago. For those who enjoy the outdoors, these dunes and the vast beach at Sker are only a short drive or an energetic walk away. Within the village itself, the local life tends to revolve around the schools, the rugby club, and the Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club, which is regarded as one of the best links courses in the region. It’s a place that manages to feel tucked away in the hills while keeping the coast and the motorway within very easy reach.
