Eccleshill sits on a high ridge overlooking the Aire Valley, positioned roughly three miles north-east of Bradford city centre. Once a busy township built on the dual pillars of quarrying and woollen mills, it still retains a distinct "village" character centered around the Upper and Lower Moors. The architecture is a practical mix of sturdy Victorian gritstone terraces and mid-century housing, largely following the steep contours of the hill. At its heart lies the village green and the old mechanics' institute, while the expansive parkland at Peel Park provides a necessary green lung on the boundary with Undercliffe. It is a well-connected spot, sitting viably for both Leeds and Bradford, yet it manages to feel tucked away from the main arterial roads. Locals generally look toward the amenities at Victoria Park and the small independent shops along Stony Lane, which lend the area a self-contained feel that many modern suburbs lack.
