Bracknell has evolved considerably from its origins as a small market village once surrounded by the hunting grounds of Windsor Forest. As one of the post-war New Towns, its layout was designed with efficiency in mind, resulting in a distinct system of leafy residential neighbourhoods linked by an extensive network of cycle paths and pedestrian underpasses. At its centre, the town underwent a massive transformation with the opening of The Lexicon, which replaced the aging concrete precinct with an open-air shopping and dining hub. Geographically, the town is defined by its proximity to nature; to the south lies the sprawling pine woodland of Swinley Forest, a popular spot for walkers and mountain bikers, while the nearby Crowthorne and Ascot offer a more traditional Berkshire feel. Its position in the Thames Valley ‘M4 corridor’ makes it a significant commercial centre, hosting the headquarters of several major technology and pharmaceutical firms, all while remaining well-connected to London and Reading by rail.
