Thurlby sits just a couple of miles south of Bourne, tucked between the edge of the limestone uplands and the start of the deep drainage levels of the Fens. It’s a village defined by its linear layout along the A15, but it has a much quieter, older core centered around the Church of St Firmin, which dates back to late Saxon times and features some impressive Norman masonry. The landscape here is characterized by the nearby woods and the Roman-built Car Dyke, an ancient watercourse that still marks the eastern boundary. For daily life, the village functions well with its own primary school, a traditional pub, and a village shop, while the proximity to Bourne provides easy access to larger supermarkets and the well-regarded grammar schools. While it has grown over the years with modern housing, you still get a strong sense of the rural Lincolnshire heritage, especially when walking the footpaths that lead out toward the Macmillan Way.
