Egerton sits about three miles north of Bolton town centre, right where the urban sprawl finally gives way to the West Pennine Moors. It developed primarily as a textile village in the 19th century - the massive chimney of the former Egerton Dye Works still stands as a landmark - but today it feels more like a gateway to the countryside. Most of the life here is clustered along the A666 corridor, where you’ll find several long-standing pubs, a primary school, and a few small independent shops. Geographically, it’s defined by its steep hills and immediate proximity to Wayoh and Turton & Entwistle reservoirs, which are within easy walking distance for anyone fancying a bit of fresh air. While the main road makes for a straightforward commute into Bolton or Manchester, the village manages to keep a quiet, slightly elevated character, often catching a bit of snow in the winter when the rest of the town just gets rain.
