Yardley sits on the eastern edge of Birmingham, serving as a practical bridge between the city centre and the more open spaces of Solihull. At its heart lies the Old Yardley conservation area, where the 13th-century St Edburgha’s Church and the timber-framed Trust School provide a sudden, quiet sense of history that feels removed from the surrounding suburbs. Geographically, it is defined by its position along the A45 Coventry Road, which makes the NEC, Birmingham Airport, and the motorway network easily accessible, while the nearby Stechford railway station offers a direct line into New Street. For greenery, the area is surprisingly well-served by the Shire Country Park, which follows the River Cole and offers miles of walking trails that link back toward Moseley. While the modern landscape is mostly residential, centered around the shopping facilities at the Swan Centre, it retains the footprint of an ancient parish that existed long before it was absorbed into the city in 1911.
