Lidlington sits on the slope of the Marston Vale, positioned roughly halfway between Bedford and Milton Keynes. It’s a village that has managed to retain a distinct identity despite its proximity to the M1, largely due to the surrounding clay pits and woodland being transformed into the Forest of Marston Vale. The village is defined by its two churches - the 'new' St Margaret’s in the centre and the roofless ruins of the old 13th-century church which still looks out over the valley from its higher vantage point. Life here tends to revolve around the circular walks through the nearby Millennium Country Park and the convenience of the Marston Vale railway line, which provides a small, hourly link between the two larger towns. While the landscape has been heavily shaped by the historic brickmaking industry, the area is now significantly greener, with the Lidlington Pit being a well-known spot locally for windsurfing and sailing.
