Flitwick sits in the heart of Bedfordshire’s Greensand Ridge, positioned roughly midway between Bedford and Luton. Historically a small agricultural village mentioned in the Domesday Book, it evolved significantly with the arrival of the railway in the 1870s, which firmly linked it to London. Today, the town is defined largely by its excellent transport connections; the Thameslink line runs right through the centre, providing a direct route to St Pancras International in about fifty minutes. Despite its growth into a sizable commuter town, it retains a connection to the landscape through the Flitwick Moor Nature Reserve - a Site of Special Scientific Interest noted for its iron-rich peat bogs and rare wetland habitats. Practicality is the town's mainstay, with a concentrated hub of shops, a large supermarket, and a modern leisure centre clustered near the station, while the proximity to the M1 motorway ensures easy road access to the rest of the Midlands and the south.
